looking for good tech and business news podcasts and video podcasts, any recommendations? I am starting a new job next week which will involve a long, dull commute each morning. I can watch/listen to vod/podcasts on my phone but other than some BBC ones (breakfast news and newsnight) there don't seem to be many around. I work in the IT industry so am looking for 'casts about new technology, business news, etc. Also, does anyone know of a way to get these to download automatically like RSS so I don't have to do it each morning?
I need latest in Technology,IT, gadgets, busines updates all in one. Recommend a site? I am a tech freak. I need latest news in Technology,IT, gadgets, business, hardware, reviews, software updates all in one site. Can you recommend a site ?

Fifa: 2014 Brazil! Fifa; Using, Finally After Lame 2010, Technology! Have You Guys Heard The Biggest News? - Yes after the worst refereeing in World Cup history! (2010) - The introduction of video technology After years of stoic resistance, FIFA have finally decided to consider implementing video technology, following numerous controversial incidents in South Africa. "It is obvious that after the experience so far in this World Cup it would be nonsense to not reopen the file of technology at the business meeting of the International FA Board in July," said Blatter following Frank Lampard's faux goal and Carlos Tevez's miles-offside strike against Mexico. It's likely the technology would simply be a camera in the goal, but it paves the way for more exciting rule changes, like a tennis-style system where teams could get three opportunities to call for replays of non-goal mouth incidents. Or robot referees. That would be sweet. - Lets hope it happens!!!!! Sources: Fifa.com
wall street journal or the new york times? I'm looking to purchase one of the two papers for home delivery, but I'd like to know which is better in terms of: -General news -Technology articles -Business/Economy articles -Sports articles I realize that both would have interesting articles, but do you have a preference when it comes to how interesting the writers are? Sorry for asking so many particular questions, but I wanna get this right the first time :)
Searching for good magazines or paper with international delivery.? I'm going to take a job in China. You know, it maybe difficult to know what exactly happening about the United State there, so I'd like to subscribe a magazines or paper with internationals delivery. I wish you could recommend some suggestion to me. For detail, I make some requirement. 1. Paper or magazines about the latest America, Including local news, business, science, technology and so on. In a word, paper or magazines with varies topic. 2. Regular published in America, that's important to keep the feeling of being at home, you know. 3. Providing international delivery to China. This is the most important. 4. The weekly one would be the best for me. I concern the daily one with daily delivery to China would cost a lot. Are there any good suggestions to me? I'm waiting online~ Thank you. ^_^
How lame is this? On news shows, etc. They say: "email us and let us know how you feel." Why? If you have legitimate business with them they won't get back to you if you email them. Why do they pretend to be all cozy with both you and technology when all the responses just go on a server file?

Did you read this ABC News article on Yahoo! Answers? http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Business/story?id=2326814&page=1 It ran on August 18th. I think the whole process is bogus; while it rewards "quality" answes with 10 pts., the most points are earned by a high quantity of (mostly crackpot) 2 pt. answers. I've got to break my addiction to Y!A. It's bringin' me down.
ABC News report on answers.yahoo.com? Not a question, I realize, but thought this would interest all of us: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Business/story?id=2326814&page=3 This site is a curse; we spend too much time here. But, I (and I suspect most of you) get real value from the exchange of ideas & better framing of our thoughts.

If it were not for the roar of the British Lion in 1939 would the US have continued business with Hitler? George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany. recent and interesting business articles.? I am in a business class in school and i am supposed to get a news article related to business. We write about one every week and we present them to the class. My problem is, every article i have written about so far, i have absolutely no interest in at all. I have written about credit markets, politics, and fuel efficient cars and other things along those lines. Nothing a 15 year old girl would be interested in talking about. Is there anyone out there that could possibly find me an interesting and recent business article for me to write about? Some things I'm sort of interested in talking about are things like the internet and new technology! Well, thank you in advance! :)

Talking with various women who don't work? I am a management consultant in New York with a pretty large firm. I also have twin sons that are 7 months old. I have been struggling in my social life because most of the couples I socialize, either through work or my husband's friends, consist of a stay-at-home wife and a working husband. I have no problem in enjoying talking with the men, but as soon as I left with a group of woman I am uncomfortable and feel out of place. There seems to be nothing to talk about. I enjoy discussing the economy, new technologies, politics, current business news, trends in education, etc. However, the women that I come into contact with seem to have nothing to talk about besides babies. As a mother, I also enjoy talking about my children, but they talk about things and I have no clue what they are talking about or I am just uninterested. If I try to talk about something interesting to me, I often get blank stares, so I usually just stick with the men. Any similar experiences? Oh, I should have mentioned - my kids are in daycare, we have a nanny. I guess I should have said that I don't think all women are like this, but just this group of women. For example, "Oh, your husband is from Taiwan? Is that the same as Thailand?" Ehhh..... And no, I am missing nothing with my children - I am happy with the style of our family life - I wouldn't have it any other way!

Why is no one seeing that technology is the biggest problem in our economy? I hate to say it, but I must. I honestly think that technology is one of the biggest killers in our economy today. The media: Newspapers, Magazines, News, Television - All killed by their online couterpart, but making way less money on advertising. Entertainment: P2P file sharing, torrents, etc...Google "watch movies online", and your first result will let you watch every Golden Globe nominee online instantly. I doubt that's what the movie industry wants. Not to mention Netflix and Redbox, which have doomed just about every movie rental business on the face of the earth. Electronics and Tech industry: Electrical components are made better, the last longer, they are purchased less, their manufacturers sell less, and resort to ads on their sold products. Auto Industry: They last longer, they are more efficient and they are purchased less. This is all before electric cars become mainstream. Which will kill every Jiffy Lube on the block. The Employee: Lazy at work, lazy at home, less productive on the job. Less money made. These are just a few of my examples, but it's been on my mind lately and it really scares me how much the internet has doomed many businesses and will continue to do so. The scariest part, is that it's not going anywhere soon, so much jobs will be lost and less money will be spent. Technology is the demise of today's present and future economy.
Obama wants to bankrupt coal business next..? I guess I really don't quite understand his business philosophies. So I'll start with what I do understand. The current economic problems have arisen from our jobs farmed out overseas. Fact The current economic problems have arisen from excessively raised fuel prices.. Fact The current economic problems have arisen from excess government spending. Fact The current economic problems have arisen from corruption on wall street and inside congress... Fact I've heard one candidate explain how intends to repair the situation. On the other hand I've heard Barack Obamas plans to completely annihilate what is left of our economic infastructure. He doesn't want to drill offshore, he doesn't want our country to burn coal for generation of electricity or power plants. He wants to spend money on "clean coal" which is absolutely rediculous. It's just pandering to the entire "go green" concept. I want my wallet to go green...One thing that upsets me about liberals.. It takes money to achieve these things. The technology will come but common sense says we need the money to do it.. Are these people just employees or business owners. From a business perspective I can say "IT TAKES MONEY." Now another area we can use to help the bail out..."welfare" It needs to be reformed because it has been abused... FACT None of the items I've adressed have a solution with Obama. He wants to kill the coal business and encourage energy prices to skyrocket. He wants to kill offshore drilling so other countries can have our wealth.. He wants to kill the pharmaceutical industry with a socialist style system. He wants to kill the educational system, Give a generous raise to teachers who don't deserve it. I'm all for rewarding skilled and proven school teachers, but to reward all of them is idiotic. He has already manage to kill journalism...After this election we will have 1 source of news...obamcannel9. So my question is what do Obama supporters see that I'm missing? And don't just slam Mccain or palin. Be realistic with your answers. gregorym... I tried to read what you wrote.. You didn't answer the question. Please try again..
Do you think "paid news" happens in the U.S. too........simply in a more sophisticated fashion? This reminds me of General Electric and NBC. (General Electric has LOTS of money invested in carbon capture technology.............NBC gives the most positive coverage to man made global warming supporters) What do you think?? http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100505/wl_sthasia_afp/indiamediacorruption_20100505113123 NEW DELHI (AFP) – The Indian media, a pillar of the country's vibrant democracy, is riddled with corruption that sees journalists report stories for cash in a phenomenon known as "paid news," a probe has revealed. The findings of an investigation for the Press Council of India, seen by AFP but yet to be released publicly, throw a damning light on an industry that is meant to serve as a bulwark against corruption in other areas of public life............................In addition to planted stories, there are also conflicts of interests that have built up in the Indian media business after the introduction of something called "private treaties." The practice was pioneered by the publishers of the Times of India which began taking stakes in companies from 2005 in exchange for advertising space in its outlets. derek..................Yes, I will agree that Monsanto is pretty much evil. truth...............thanx for the links. Do you think this is still happening??

One American was also wounded. Skip to next paragraph Enlarge This Image Rahmat Gul/Associated Press Afghans shouted anti-American slogans Sunday to protest the deaths of civilians. The Reach of War Go to Complete Coverage » Enlarge This Image Noorullah/European Pressphoto Agency A suicide car bombing was part of the violence, the United States military said. The shooting set off demonstrations, with local people blocking the highway, the main road east from the town of Jalalabad to the border with Pakistan. And there were differences in some of the accounts of the incident, with the Americans saying that the civilians were caught in crossfire between the troops and militants, and Afghan witnesses and some authorities blaming the Americans for indiscriminately shooting at civilian vehicles in anger after the explosion. The United States military said the unit came under fire after a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden car near their convoy “as part of a complex ambush involving enemy small-arms fire from several directions.” The marines, who were on patrol near Jalalabad airfield, returned fire, and the civilians were killed and wounded in the crossfire during the battle, according to a statement from the military press office at Bagram airbase near Kabul. “We regret the death of innocent Afghan citizens as a result of the Taliban extremists’ cowardly act,” Lt. Col. David Accetta, a military spokesman, said in the statement. “Once again, the terrorists demonstrated their blatant disregard for human life by attacking coalition forces in a populated area, knowing full well that innocent Afghans would be killed and wounded in the attack.” Yet some of the wounded interviewed in the hospital by news agencies said the only shooting came from the American troops. A hospital official, who asked not to be named, said all the wounded were suffering from bullet wounds and not shrapnel from the bomb explosion. Hundreds of Afghans blocked the road and threw rocks at police officers in protest afterward, with some demonstrators shouting “Death to America! Death to Karzai,” a reference to President Hamid Karzai, The Associated Press reported. The shooting is a setback for American forces in Afghanistan, who have been working to contain the continuing insurgent attacks, in particular roadside bombs and suicide attacks, and win the support of the people with reconstruction and development projects. Deadly riots shook Kabul last May after American troops were involved in a fatal car crash and then opened fire on the crowd. Among the dead this morning were a woman and two children in their early teens, said Dr. Ajmal Pardez, the provincial director of health, speaking by telephone from the Jalalabad city hospital. He said the hospital received 10 dead and 25 wounded people from the incident, with four people in critical condition, he said. After the suicide attack, the American soldiers treated every car and person along the highway as a potential attacker, though none of the people showed hostile intent, Muhammad Khan Katawazi, the district chief of Shinwar, told The Associated Press. “They were firing everywhere, and they even opened fire on 14 to 15 vehicles passing on the highway,” said Tur Gul, 38, who was standing on the roadside by a gas station and was shot twice in his right hand. “They opened fire on everybody, the ones inside the vehicles and the ones on foot.” Some of the wounded interviewed by The Associated Press said the soldiers opened fire indiscriminately on passing cars and pedestrians on the busy main road. “When we parked our vehicle, when they passed us, they opened fire on our vehicle,” said 15-year-old Mohammad Ishaq, who was hit by two bullets, in his left arm and his right ear. “It was a convoy of three American Humvees. All three Humvees were firing around.” In other fighting, two British soldiers were killed on Saturday in southern Afghanistan, the British Defense Ministry said today. The men were involved in heavy fighting that has raged for three days in the town of Sangin, said Col. Tom Collins, a NATO spokesman in Kabul. Townspeople have fled the town and abandoned their shops as Taliban insurgents and British troops stationed there have been trading artillery and rockets, according to a resident of the area.
I read an very interesring article in World News and Trends magazine, and I learned that adultry is viewed as? normal in today's society and is acceptable in most circles. Bored with monogamy? I don't want a hooker, I want a nice girl who loves her husband! Hard to believe but that was a factual statement by a wealthy American describing his requirements for a web site known as " Married but Looking". The American web site alone has over a million members. Adultry is becoming a Big Business, acceptable practise in our country. The wrong use of technology has made it easier for these marital lawbreakers God's law. What these cheaters don't realize , however, is that God's law is self enforcing. Eventually they will pay the penalty in unhappy marriages that often end in divorce. The curse of the internet pornography, equaility gay rights, already threatens the ability of men and women to sustain normal intimate relationships and adding an adulterer's web site certainly adds fuel to the fire. Do you think God is ignorant of all these happenings? Do you think the world is living too fast n freely? The sad part about our society is that public apathy has allowed the devil's vision to flourish in undermining christian values, which in turn is destroying the very fabric of mankind. People do have a right to choose their lifestyle whether to be homosexual or to be an adulterer, child abuser or fornificator. Sadly though people are divided when it comes to the question of morality and while some people agree that these lifestle practises are morally wrong others feel it jeopardizes their freedom rights regardless of the many victims of said practises. The broken homes, the traumatized child, the sexual diseases and the list goes on. The battle lines have been drawn and these plagues have infiltrated our society and we are now experiencing the debilitating effects the world over. But thankfully divine opinion is absolute what was applicable to those living in the first century is still pertinent today. Bibical truth cannot be set aside in favor of relevancy to a changing society. The apostle wrote " avoid sexual immorality that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honourable 1 Thess. 4:3 holy in regard to our responsibility towards God and honourable in our responsibility towards our neighbours Paul goes on not in passionate lust like the heathen who do not know God.' There is implied here a vital relationship between the ignorance of God and moral laxity. So far from compromising in matters of sex they are forbidden even a lustful look. ( So much for shopping around) And for that matter permissiveness is not freedom Basic to our understanding of human sexuality are the first two chapters of Genesis it lays down the divine ideal of one man one woman monogamous lifetime marriage christians should hold to this rejecting all extra marital sexual relationships including homosexual activity The study of history tells us that no human society ancient or modern has ever sustained itself by deviating from Gods design

Can you help tell me which of these universities has the best political science program? I've looked at the US News and World Report, but they only detail the universities with the best engineering and business programs. Based on the Princeton Review, Princeton is the 5th most politically active university and Harvard is 9th, but what I really want to know is how the programs compare to one another, not the activism of the student bodies. The schools that I'm considering are (in no particular order): Columbia University Harvard College Massachusetts Institute of Technology Princeton University Rice University Stanford University University of Florida University of Texas-Austin University of Virginia If you'd rank them for me, that would help me immensely. Obviously, I can't expect to get into all of these schools, but I'd like a good evaluation of each so that I can effectively weigh my choices when I get them. Thanks a bunch. :)

this my health and physical education oral aye tell me what you think? Hello Mr G and class mates. This oral presentation will explain to you how “women in sport gain sufficient recognition by the media in the 21st century than in previous decades” and how this can still be improved. The relationship between sport and the media has become so close that without the media the sporting world would collapse. The main income for sport comes from the media, as the media attracts big money through sponsorship and advertisements. The money from this helps clubs to be able to buy and import better players to make the game allot more interesting, the clubs can also use this money to upgrade, build and repair stadiums along with giving the players salaries. Without promotion of sport through the media there would be no new young talent coming through and the sport would become boring and people would loose interest in it. Media has a large impact on games and often games will often be revolved around add breaks. Ever since sport has been broadcast on television games have been changed to attract a wider audience, like one day cricket for example was formed in 1977 because of the media influence to attract a wider audience. A quote from the editor of, the economist (20 July 1996) “The lure of money is already altering sport and will change it more. Increasingly games will be reorganised to turn them into better television.”(p 367). The Medias involvement in sport is constantly becoming more important. Sports relationship with the media started out small but become much closer with advancement in technology. Ever since the media has become involved in sport it has rapidly become a very profitable business. Sport was first introduced into the media in 1956 but had a minimal affect due to lack of communication tools and technology. Then in the 1970’s with the development of technology sport had another go with the world cricket series being televised for the first time to a television audience of 1 million people, from then on the relationship between sport and the media blossomed and were then inextricably linked. Quote Jacques Marchand (1994) “At the start, the marriage of sport and the media was a love match. It later became a marriage of convenience and today, with the advent of [global] television, it has become, in addition, a marriage based on money.” (p 367) Since the beginning of sport it has been male dominated and it is only really in the past couple of years women have started to gain some recognition. The messages the media send about women and women’s sport have a large influence on how female athletes and sports are accepted in society. Women have come a long way in sports from only being able to view sporting events if they were unmarried virgins or prostitutes to now being able to participate and compete in almost every kind of sport, but they still get almost no recognition whatsoever. Women often have to pose either nude or in bikinis due to lack of coverage and promotion. For example in 2000 to gain media publicity, the Australian soccer team had to pose nude in a calendar shoot. In the courier mail on the 12 of November 2008 there were only three news articles on women’s sport out of the thirty eight sport articles there. One of the articles was about tennis player Daniela Hantuchova here is the article I have highlighted the parts I believe that women in sport constantly have to endure (pass it around the room) look at the bottom of that one it says. “Hantuchova has sustained her carrier well after many years in which a battle to keep weight on her thin 181cm frame was closely monitored by the international media.” That is an example of the media controlling how sporting women look. The last time a female was on the front page of a news paper or featured on the news was during the Olympics, but still it was images of the girls wearing their tight swim suits or other tight clothes and only featured the attractive girls, yet another example of sexism. The other articles are about the Firebirds net ball team and it mainly spoke about re-signing Tasmin greenway the “English stunner” the article was alright but focused on her looks, And the other article was about the sports stars of the year with a tiny space in the bottom of the page and a photo of Stephanie Rice even though the actual article mentioned her once and was mainly about men. The media have so much control they can do almost anything they like, for example with the women’s beach volleyball they have changed the design of outfits to tiny bikinis, and use many different camera angles to let guys have a “perve” when the girls go to serve, there is a nice close up of their bums. Female beach volleyball has a predominately male auidence due to the media changing the rules to attract a male auidence. Women need to get more recognition for what they have done for the sporting world, often they are the higher achievers then the males. Take the Olympics for example, the majority of the medals cam

Is this the answer to the Pirate problem? Silent Guardian Report: Raytheon 'heat beam' weapon ready for Iraq Boston Business Journal – December 1, 2004 Government defense giant Raytheon Co. has developed the first nonlethal weapon that fires a heat beam to repel enemies and reduces the chance of innocent civilians being shot, a Pentagon official said. Raytheon, the world's largest missile maker, delivered a prototype to the U.S. military last month. The product is expected to be evaluated from February through June to determine whether to equip U.S. forces with it, Colonel David Karcher, director of the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, told Bloomberg Business News. With U.S. casualties in Iraq rising, expectations are growing that Raytheon's weapon, called the Active Denial System, could be sent to Iraq in the next year, according to Charles "Sid'' Heal, commander of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. A former Marine, Heal headed nonlethal-weapons training for the U.S. military in Somalia in 1995 and advised Raytheon on the beam's development. "It's there, it's ready,'' said Heal, who has felt the weapon's beam and compares it to having a hot iron placed on the skin. "It will likely be in Iraq in the next 12 months. They are very, very close.'' The weapon, mounted on a Humvee vehicle, projects a "focused, speed-of-light millimeter wave energy beam to induce an intolerable heating sensation,'' according to a U.S. Air Force fact sheet. The energy penetrates less than 1/64 of an inch into the skin and the sensation ceases when the target moves out of the beam. The weapon could be used for crowd control and is effective beyond the range of bullets fired by small arms, Karcher said. The effective range of an AK-47 assault rifle is as far as 273 yards, while an M16A2 rifle has a range of 400 meters. The primary benefit would be protecting U.S. troops, Heal said. The weapon would also limit deaths of noncombatants, he said. "This forces your adversary to declare intentions,'' Heal said. "U.S. forces get killed because they are reluctant to shoot. It happens in Iraq every day." "This is where the future is going,'' Raytheon Chief Executive William Swanson, 55, said at a conference in Tucson, Ariz., where he introduced the weapon to investors Wednesday. "This is the ability to protect our troops, and we're talking about the speed of light.'' Raytheon is two years into a four-year, $40 million development contract, Karcher said. How soon the weapon is deployed will depend on the military's interest, and while the technology may be ready, troops must also be trained on it and engagement rules must be decided by a four-star general, he said. Heal said the military version would cost about $1 million, and the U.S. military could require many. Karcher said the first prototype cost about $10 million. Heal told Bloomberg Business News that Raytheon could expand the market by selling a smaller version to law-enforcement agencies. The company is working on a smaller, tripod-mounted version for police forces, and the price would have to come down to a few hundred thousand dollars each to be affordable, he said.

WTF SONY WTF SONY WTF SONY? PAY TO PLAY ONLINE PS3!!!! WHY!? Like many PS3 owners I suffered a moment of major panic late last week when Sony confirmed at an investor conference they are planning to launch a paid subscription model for the PS3s online services in 2010. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10611339 Such a move would bring see Sony operating a two-tiered online services business model for the PS3 that would most likely operate along similar lines to Microsoft's Xbox Live. Xbox Live offers a premium Gold subscription and free Silver membership which only gives access to basic services. Sony was quick to reassure panicked PS3 owners that they would not have to pay to play, with Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Kaz Hirai issuing a statement stating that the present level of free online services available in the PS3 would remain. Details around subscription based offerings will be announced in 2010. Sony has already confirmed that premium services will include peripherals, software and some online services. WOW. why. your disappinting ALOT of people, sure the reg service is still here but now your singling out others. much like silver/gold why sony now your online is not as good as live IMO, free was one advantage over LIVE WTF.
Where can I find a calendar of upcoming U.S. & World events? I'm developing an editorial calendar for a general website that has an international audience, though the primary audience is in the U.S. Are there sites / resources (or other publications like the New York Times, etc.) that list upcoming national / world events that may be covered in the news? I'm interested in a wide range of categories (e.g. politics, entertainment, sports, life, business, travel, music, technology, etc.) and am not sure how to get started building such a calendar that is comprehensive.
is it true that business is a toy degree? shouldn't business be common sense !!? I am engineering major but I took some business classes last semester at UMass Amherst, #10 in management by US news&world report, and realized how "retarded" can one become with a business degree today...yet, I dont see any reason for why some employers still hire business grads with descent salaries because all they know is just "Common sense" ..i mean let's be honest, most people today can run a business whenever they have the money to do it..and not the education to do it..... while in engineering, people deeply challenged themselves by the rigor of math and science and thus should earn much more money than any business grad. In addition, look at the large corporations, they are all made by entrepreneurs who are engineers not business grads such as google, microsoft, HP, Honda to name a very few ...The world needs engineers not business people to find new solutions for energy problems and create new technologies !!!! ANSWERS WELCOME !! Unfortunately, there was not too much being said regarding this issue. Employer hire business people to keep things going because you have general, basic, straightforward skills to run an office. Also, often innocent high school students think a Business degree prepares them to start a company which is totally wrong. well, that's great for starting a gas station or a McDonald career...well even if you can make a large finance company, it will only be to trade with technology based corporations, it would never improve our lives and conditions as human. but, Ventures made by turning scientific discoveries into products are changing the way we live, communicate and so on. for these solid reasons, a business degree is nothing but general skills anyone would need to perform certain office tasks not more.
Who lies and cheats more in Business, America or China? In American news, I often here how China is violating intellectual property rights of American Companies. I also here NewYorkTimes complain about how Chinese use bribes to win favor in obtaining special treatment in Contracting. Other complaints from American media about the Chinese is the low quality of its products such as lead paint in toy production or poison in dog food. Because China is a developing country and economy, there is much room to develop to match that of Developed economies such as the USA or Europe. When America began their industrialized revolution in the 1800's, it took over 100 years to develop to an advance economy as it is now. In those early days, Americans violated intellectual property rights of those in Great Britain, Germany, and Europe. There was no respect for property rights of those countries, They took what made them rich and industrious, took credit, copied technologies with impunity. Now America complain about China? Americans are hypocrites

Why wont the news media tell you the rest of the story on HR 6? Taxing "Big Oil" isnt the only part.. section 2, title II, section 204 and we actually page 10 under section 204, item C. And I will read this, will find this stunning that it is actually in print. That transfers item C, line 4, page 10: A lessee shall not be eligible to obtain any economic benefit of any covered lease or any other lease. So President Clinton's team had negotiated bad leases, and now our friends are saying that those bad leases must be stopped. We simply need to stop them. We don't need to unravel them. We don't need to go through the thorny process of making it right for both sides as we unravel. We simply are going to punish you by not allowing you to derive any economic benefit from this type of installation. I will tell you, that undermines the full faith and credit of the United States. If we cannot depend on the word of the United States, then what do we have? I would draw parallels to things that other countries have done. In Venezuela, Hugo Chavez in 2001 raised the royalty rates from 1 percent to 16 percent just like that. Now, I will tell you as a business guy, if you know that a cost is going to be 1 percent or 16 percent, it is sort of irrelevant, but you must know that the cost is steady. When he raised those rates just at a single point with no ability to redesign these types of infrastructures, then he severely limited the interest of people to invest in that country, and certainly [Page: H782] GPO's PDFthat is exactly what is happening. Foreign firms are already curtailing their investments in that country. So in Venezuela we see that there is an attempt to change existing contracts, very similar to the way that we changed yesterday on the floor of this House of Representatives, and it has affected the desire of people to invest in Venezuela. In Bolivia we have the same thing. The Bolivian government threatened to expel oil companies from that country in 2006 if they did not agree to new government terms on existing contracts. What has happened? I think you could forecast what has happened. What is done is that foreign investors are now beginning to reconsider whether or not they will actually be a part of the Bolivian economy or not. This is the thing that all shareholders, they will live with any certainty in life, but they will not live with uncertainty. And when we begin to change the contracts, they begin to pull their investments out and go to places where certainty is more of a potential. In Russia we have seen the same thing. Companies such as Shell, Exxon, BP have had valid oil and gas leases in Russia for years. President Putin had a number of government agencies threaten to pull these leases for a number of suspect reasons. By threatening to pull these leases, Shell was forced to give up assets that were worth billions of dollars. So we see in Russia this attempt to maneuver contracts, to manipulate contracts much as what we did yesterday, and the effects are very bad. Long term, Russia will not have people who are willing to come and invest in that country. In 2001, I had the opportunity to go as a company; my wife and I had a small company that dealt in oil and gas, repairs of oil wells. Russia was looking for such capability. So in 2001, I went with a team of people who did various different projects. We were the ones who did down hole repairs on oil wells. They took me, they showed me files of maybe 6,000 or 8,000 wells that were simple to correct, yet they in their technology in 2001 did not have access to even the basics that my father had seen here in the United States in the early 1950s when he was working in the same industry. My father retired from Exxon; his whole life was work. So when I went back, I showed him the videos of the equipment that was in Russia in 2001. He said, ``Son, in 1950 we were more advanced than what we are seeing here.'' When countries are unwilling to allow people to have stable returns, it doesn't have to be high returns, low returns, but there must be stability and there must be predictability. When countries do not allow that, there will be no investments. And so here Russia was with over 6,000 wells asking me in 2001 to come and fix because they did not have anyone that was capable of fixing them. I determined that the environment was very, very unsettling in Russia, so we actually opted not to become a part of the team that went there. There was a company that was about 10 times our size located in Abilene, Texas. They did go. That was about maybe a $50 million company, maybe a $100 million company. Within 2 years, they were selling everything at bankruptcy because the Russians, as you can predict, said, ``No. These assets are going to belong to us.'' So this contracting problem that was attempted to be cured yesterday in legislation I think is going to be, instead of a fix, is going to cause prices to be higher at the pump, investments to be less, and at the end of the day we are going to wonder if maybe we did not empower a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs to go around and make commitments on behalf of the Federal Government. We shall see. I wish my friends well. I would say that I am not the only one who wonder about the contracts. Just day before yesterday the Washington Post had an editorial which declared that these elements that are included in the bill, the ones that begin to undo the contracts that we voted on yesterday and pushed by the majority in this House, the Washington Post declared those solutions to be ones that Russia and Bolivia would be proud of.

Stanley Eitzen in Elite Deviance, say that 138 appointees of the Reagan administration either resigned under an ethical cloud or were criminally indicted. Curiously Haynes Johnson uses the same figure but with a different standard in "Sleep-Walking Through History: America in the Reagan Years: "By the end of his term, 138 administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. This could be very usefull in doing home inspections prior to people renting or buying a home, as meth contamanation will make people very ill, and cause the home to be condimed, the residents kicked out untill properly cleaned. I would also like to be able to walk by the lockers at the High school and submit a list to the school of all the locker numbers that have drug residue on the handles. Her body was stuffed into a suitcase and taken about 100 miles to Birmingham where it was buried in the back garden of a house. Her badly decomposed body was found in April 2006, three months after the killing. Last month a jury found her father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and his brother Ari Mahmod, 51, guilty of murder after a three-month trial. Their associate Mohamad Hama, 30, had earlier admitted killing her. On Thursday at a pre-sentence hearing for Hama, the Old Bailey heard details about Banaz's last moments. Prosecutors said the three convicted men, along with two other suspects who are still at large, had carried out the killing fearing that the authorities were closing in on them. They believed Banaz had brought shame on the family by leaving her husband, an Iraqi Kurd she had been forced to marry at 17, and falling in love with Rahmat Suleimani, an Iranian Kurd. Her former unnamed partner had raped her as well as repeatedly beating her, the court heard. Hama, who prosecutors said had been a ringleader in the murder, was caught by listening devices talking to a friend in prison about the murder. In the recordings, transcripts of which were relayed to the court, Hama and his friend are hearing laughing as he described how she was killed with Banaz's uncle "supervising". "I was kicking and stamping on her neck to get the soul out. I saw her stark naked, only wearing pants or underwear," Hama is recorded as saying. His lawyers say there is no evidence to support the prosecution's claims. The decision to kill her came after a meeting on January 23 -- the day before she was murdered -- when the family decided to take action before the police could foil their attempts, said prosecutor Victor Temple. Hama is due to be sentenced on Friday with Mahmod Mahmod and his brother, Ari. * Email Story * IM Story * Printable View * Blog This Recommend this article Average (1 vote) 5 stars Sign in to recommend this article » Most Recommended Stories » Related Articles: UK * Briton Charged Over Step-Son's DeathSkyNews - 12 minutes ago * Crime figures stable but public fears still on the rise: reportAFP - 20 minutes ago * Russia expels four UK diplomatsPress Assoc. - 26 minutes ago * More Politicians Admit To Cannabis UseSkyNews - 38 minutes ago * Viking treasure goes on displayITN - 48 minutes ago Sponsored Links (What’s this?) I need a job, what do i do? Currently, i am unemployed. I had a job about 2 months ago working at a fast food restaurant making minimum wage after 1 year. Before that, i was in job corps for about 10 months getting my G.E.D, and studying a trade in business technologies. I went to job corps because i had dropped out of high school the middle of my freshman year. I am 23 years old now, still living with my mother, trying to get out, and find a new job/career. It's been kind of tough though. When i first decided what i wanted to do, wich was to be a trucker, i was not able to because of a D.U.I i had recieved about 4 years ago, so thats outa the question. Than i decided that maybe i could join the Navy since the economy is so bad. Well, that didn't work out either. The navy requires you to have a HS diploma these days, and i had only recieved my G.E.D in job corps. So basically thats outa the question. Since i had quit my last job at the restaurant, i have applied at about 50 places, and have not recieved even 1 phone call back. I am not a felon, these days that's how they treat me, and make me feel. I have done everything i can, but i feel like possibly killing myself. I have tried so hard to make somthing of myself, but everytime i seem to fail. When i went into business tech in job corps with experience in microsoft excell/microsoft powerpoint/microsoft word/typing/, and talking on the phone, it now seems that it was a big waste of time. I will mention that i did also recieve a harassment charge. Maybe thats why they rejected me. However, just because of this harassment charge that happened about 1 year ago, people will not hire me because they assume that i am a bad person because i got into a fight with a friend of mine after i found out that he had stolen, and sold my bike. I don't think that is very fair. Do you? Maybe i should work for free, maybe habitat for humanity. I mean if i can't even get a fucking job working any fucking where, maybe i should just work for free. Maybe habitat for humanity will take me into cinsideration if i'm lucky, instead of sitting at home everyday hoping, and praying that someone might call me back for a job interview. I don't want you to think i am feeling sorry for myself, thats not the point. I am so sick of living this way, as many other in this country are with this economy. People losing their home, getting laid off/ trying to support a family with very little income. It's not right. We are human beings, we deserve better than this. People are suffering. I am only 23 years old. I can't imagine what might happen 10 years from now. Everyone always says, " it will get worse before it gets better" It's been a disaster for a long time. I can't even imagine what our future is going to be 10 years from now. Someone needs to do somthing soon. I believe in president obaba. I think that he will do good for our country. He just needs a little more time. I just hope that it comes quick. I'm tired of listening to the news, or logging on to yahoo on the internet, which is my homepage and listening, and hearing about people who are struggling, and suffering. It shouldn't be this way. Maybe there is no hope. If you are unemployed, and looking for a job with no luck. I'm sure you can understand where i am coming from. These are the ones i want to hear from. People who are struggling, and facing the same dilemma that i am. I just hope that one day, things will be different. I'm not sure when the change will come, but i hope it happens soon. I just get so angry sometimes about this topic, and it seems the only way that i can express my feeling is through the internet, and chatting with others. I just want some positive feedbac from you guys. I want to know what you think, if you agree, or disagree about what is happening in our economy, please give feedback. thank you. for those who have responed with the response of "go get a job, look for a job, or go get a job"fuck you. You have a job, so you don't quite understand how it feels to have jobs, so don't respond.
investment magazines Here in Canada, what are the available magazines on WallStreet stock and option trading? or on latest business investment news and stuff. There is a magazine called "Wall Street & Technology". What technology does it refer to? like stock trading technologies?
How much is this info worth to entrepreneurs? - makes the electric cars economically viable, ~no-cost cells? There is an electric vehicle running around Vancouver, Canada on nearly zero-cost batteries. It has been on newspapers, TV, and at least one magazine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ymFIVX9VgA There at least three battery breakthoughs in this vehicle. Its cost to operate is 30 cents a day, including the cost of battery replacement. http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/1091 This is the world's first licensed vehicle that runs off discarded batteries. http://electric-vehicle-article.blogspot.com/ The sub-title of one news article says that this technology "could make electric vehicles economical to run." (Newsleader) http://revived-batteries-news.blogspot.com/ Given the current issue of Scientific American now on the newstands blaming greenhouse gases and the dire consequences of gasoline use, how much is this information worth to a business that can take it to the "next stage", and slow down global warming? Note that the batteries used in this vehicle were rescued recycling. ..sorry, typo correction: The last sentence should have ended with, "..rescued from industrial recycling. Batteries can be revived (not referring to "recharging" here) four to five times. For example, a deep-cycle lead acid battery that is rated for 500 discharge cycles can be recharged 2,500 cycles -- if you know how." Additional details in reply to the second Answer: According to statistics on the 'net, there are 120 million batteries recycled every year. New batteries may last between 5,000-15,000 miles on a vehicle, according to a survey in a Yahoo Group. Then, they can still be revived. A typical car in Canada is driven 12,000 miles (or 20,000 kilometers.) I know for a fact that the red Ego-II electric scooter's (surf the EV Album further) original 2002 factory-installed batteries are still in use (not on the scooter) and register over 30Ah on a load tester. These batteries are rated ~34AH by the battery manufacturer or egovehicles.com, the scooter maker. There is an incredibly simple solution to the general public's view that electric cars have a so-called "short range". The solution is so simple that you'll wonder why you didn't think of it yourself: When you need to drive more than the battery pack's range (say 40 miles), simply load and run a genset (propane or gas powered) for the infrequent long trip (say 80 miles.) That does not include "opportunity charging" that is possible with a 150' extension cord. If you've never had an electric scooter, ebike, or car, you don't know how nice people can be when you ask to charge an EV -- they love it! Anywhere, including churches, cinema, gas stations, homes of strangers, retail stores. The biggest hurdle to an EV's may be that many people are "afraid" to try until they see someone in their street having fun with one. This is a reply to "Kemperk": The electric vehicle (exampled in this question) is a used electric pickup. Electric cars and trucks can be purchase easily today, for as low as $1,000 and are insured (in the example) in BC, just like any other vehicle. If the electrical system "shorts out", it can be repaired by an electrician or electronics technician -- much simplier and easier than a gasoline vehicle, as you may have seen in the famour movie, "Who Killed The Electric Car". Culturally acceptable? Actually, people love you when they seen you driving an EV. Certainly no one (in Vancouver) says that an electric vehicle is "culturally unaccepted" -- people often ask, 'Where can I get one?' Does this answer all your questions? Kemperk had two more questions that I failed to comment on. These questions are.. (1) where do I get electricity if I am away from home? (2) Are the cars safe otherwise? If you are 150 feet further away than an electric outlet, you could also bring (or carry on the pickup's flatbed) a 55lb. Yamaha or Honda genset (generator) to turn an EV effectively into a "temporary hybrid" -- you can even charge the vehicle while driving it, and double the range of the EV, when you need the extra distance. In my experience the so-called "range limitation" of electric vehicles is nothing more than a fear, that is the result of brainwashing by writers who never had an electric vehicle. Because people who have electric bikes, electric scooters, or electric cars know that driving range is *not* a hurdle to owning an EV. One hurdle that you didn't mention is that most apartment underground parking stalls do not as yet have electric outlets. That is being addressed by LEEDS standards.

Can anyone, shorten this news article? WA govt accused of caving in to GM lobby 14th November 2008, 15:45 WST The West Australian government has caved in to pressure from lobbyists by lifting a ban on genetically modified cotton crops, the WA Conservation Council says. The West Australian government today announced it would lift a moratorium on the commercial production of GM cotton in the East Kimberley region’s Ord River Irrigation Area in the state’s north. Conservation Council director Piers Verstegen said the government had succumbed to pressure from the GM industry, despite community concerns. “Once GM crops are introduced there is no going back. We will lose our reputation as a clean, green state for agricultural production,” Mr Verstegen said. Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman said the decision followed extensive GM cotton trials in the area during the past decade. “Over the years, trials of GM cotton in the Ord have frequently out-yielded Australian production by about 10 per cent,” Mr Redman said. “These trials have shown that there are no agronomic problems, including the control of insects, in growing GM cotton in the Ord. “Importantly, there have been no environmental concerns with the crops.” The trials were conducted under the supervision of the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator, the WA Department of Agriculture and Food, and the CSIRO. Mr Verstegen said Mr Redman had previously told an anti-GM rally at state parliament that he would listen to community views before a decision on the issue was made. “He has not honoured that commitment and today’s announcement demonstrates that this government is open for business with the GM industry but quite happy to ignore the legitimate concerns of the WA community,” he said. A 2007 report into GM crops estimated GM cotton would be worth more than $50 million a year to the region and would generate 200 full-time jobs. More than 90 per cent of Australia’s cotton crop was already GM and the use of GM cotton would reduce chemical use in the Ord, Mr Redman said. “In the 1970s, WA tried growing non-GM cotton and it was a disaster, with the plants infested with pests,” he said. “Growers had to spray pesticides up to 40 times each season. “In comparison, our GM cotton trials have only required two spray applications with insecticides that are far more environmentally-friendly than the now-banned DDT used in the 1970s.” Opening up the Ord to GM cotton could relieve stress on the Murray-Darling system, Mr Redman said. “Cotton growers facing severe water shortages in the eastern states will also have an alternative site that is well supplied with water all year round, and we may see some of their operations move to the Ord, providing relief to the Murray-Darling system,” he said. But Mr Verstegen said GM cotton had not performed well in other countries and pesticide use had not been substantially reduced. “Cotton is a crop that is extremely intensive in chemical and water use and the experience with GM cotton in other countries has shown that the use of pesticides is not reduced substantially as claimed,” Mr Verstegen said. The WA government is reconsidering a moratorium on GM canola and assessing risk management issues surrounding the oilseed crop in GM form. PERTH
Was and is this the America you and your ancestors fought/fight for ? August 30, 2005: 12:24 PM EDT By Jeanne Sahadi, CNN/Money senior writer NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – If sky-high executive pay at publicly traded companies gives you vertigo, you might want to read this sitting down. In 2004, the ratio of average CEO pay to the average pay of a production (i.e., non-management) worker was 431-to-1, up from 301-to-1 in 2003, according to "Executive Excess," an annual report released Tuesday by the liberal research groups United for a Fair Economy and the Institute for Policy Studies. That's not the highest ever. In 2001, the ratio of CEO-to-worker pay hit a peak of 525-to-1. Still, it's quite a leap year over year, and it ranks on the high end historically. In 1990, for instance, CEOs made about 107 times more than the average worker, while in 1982, the average CEO made only 42 times more. The cumulative pay of the top 10 highest paid CEOs in the past 15 years totaled $11.7 billion. And though the specific individuals in each of those annual top 10 lists changed year to year, many bosses did pretty well throughout the entire period. Citigroup's Sandy Weill, for example, has made $1.1 billion since 1990. "Pay" in this instance refers to total compensation – including salary, bonuses, restricted stock awards, payouts on long-term incentives and the value of options exercised during the year. The report also compares the growth in average CEO pay – which was $11.8 million in 2004 – to the growth in the minimum wage. Had the minimum wage risen as fast as CEO compensation since 1990, the researchers calculated, it would now be $23.03 an hour instead of just $5.15. And the average production worker would be making $110,126 a year instead of $27,460 http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/26/news/economy/ceo_pay/ --------------------------------------- Most people will have read the recent reports of how Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has had his personal net worth soar over 100 billion dollars and then drop down to 55 billion. He certainly knows how to make (and lose) money. (Note: This article was written in 1998, Bill's Fortunes have dropped a touch since then.) Consider that he made this money in the 25 years or so since Microsoft was founded in 1975. If you presume that he has worked 14 hours a day on every business day of the year since then, that means he's been making money at a staggering million dollars per hour, around $300 per second. http://www.templetons.com/brad/billg.html ----------------------------------- About one-third of the adult homeless population have served their country in the Armed Services. What does the following article mean ? Tech giants in human rights deal By Maggie Shiels Technology reporter, BBC News, Silicon Valley People using the internet in Beijing Google was accused of censoring 2% of search results in China Microsoft, Google and Yahoo have signed a global code of conduct promising to offer better protection for online free speech and against official intrusion. The Global Network Initiative follows criticism that companies were assisting governments in countries like China to censor the Internet. The guidelines seek to limit what data should be shared with authorities, in cases where free speech is an issue. "This is an important first step," said Mike Posner of Human Rights First. He told the BBC "What this is is a recognition by all these tech companies, the human rights groups and social investors that there has to be a collective response to this growing problem. "Companies need to step up to the plate and be more aggressive in challenging unwarranted government interference," he said. The initiative states that privacy is "a human right and guarantor of human dignity," and the agreement commits the companies to try to resist overly broad demands for restrictions on freedom of speech and the privacy of users. They will also assess the human rights climate in a country before concluding business deals and make sure their employees and partners follow suit. "These principles are not going to be a silver bullet, but the most important point for me is to provide transparency," said Danny O'Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. "We have joined this initiative because we know that a wide range of groups working together can achieve much more than the company acting alone," said Andrew McLaughlin, Google's director of global public policy. 'Valuable roadmap' The impetus for such an agreement follows years of criticism that a number of businesses, including Google, Yahoo and Microsoft have complicity built what has been dubbed the "Great Firewall of China". Screen grab of Skype website Skype say they are abiding by Chinese laws over internet use Google has been accused of complying with Chinese government demands to filter internet searches to eliminate query results regarding topics such as democracy or Tiananmen Square. Microsoft has come under attack for blocking the blog of a prominent Chinese Media researcher who posted articles critical of a management purge at the Beijing News Daily. Canadian researchers uncovered that a Skype joint venture in China monitored users' communications. And a Chinese reporter Shi Tao was jailed for 10 years after Yahoo China provided his personal information to the Chinese government. Today Yahoo co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang welcomed the new code of conduct. "These principles provide a valuable roadmap for companies like Yahoo operating in markets where freedom of expression and privacy are unfairly restricted. Shi Tao, file picture Shi Tao's jailing sparked a controversy of Yahoo business practices in China "Yahoo was founded on the belief that promoting access to information can enrich people's lives and the principles we unveiled today reflect our determination that our actions match our values around the world," said Mr Yang. While China has been painted as the worst abuser, Colin Maclay of the Berkman Centre for Internet and Society at Harvard University said there are other countries and governments all over the world at fault. "The number of states actively seeking to censor online content and access personal information is growing. "And the means employed - technical, social, legal, political - are increasingly sophisticated, often placing internet and telecommunications companies in difficult positions." 'Business case' The Global Network Initiative was drawn up by the internet companies along with human rights groups, academics and investors. Adam Kanzer who is the managing director and general counsel at Domini Social Investments said as well as being the right thing to do, it also makes good business sense. He told BBC News "When you see the industry being caught up in the tactics of various regimes around the world, the business case is very clear. Freedom of expression and privacy is core to their business. "They depend on a wide open, freely accessible and secure internet. That's what they are about. If people don't trust the internet and believe they are secure, then that is counterproductive to their business." Computer keyboard, Eyewire The plan has yet to receive the support of internet companies in China The effort is already being seen by some as not going far enough. "After two years of effort, they have ended up with so little," said Morton Sklar executive director for the World Organisation for Human Rights USA. "It is very little more than a broad statement of support for a general principle without any concrete backup mechanism to ensure that the

Just saw this on the news: What do you think? DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) -- Large swathes of Asia, the Middle East and north Africa had their high-technology services crippled Thursday following a widespread Internet failure which brought many businesses to a standstill and left others struggling to cope. India's Internet bandwidth has been sliced in half, The Associated Press reported, leaving its lucrative outsourcing industry trying to reroute traffic to satellites and other cables through Asia. Reports say that Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain are also experiencing severe problems. I wasn't suggesting anything. I just thought it would be interesting to hear what other people on YA had to say about it. I thought it would be an interesting topic, depending on how unusual the answers got.

Starting from 9th grade, Im taking these Courses and Electives: English World Humanities Level 0 Social Studies World Humanities Level 0 Geometry Level 1 Accelerated Geophysical Science Level 1/Honors Arabic 1 Level 1 Interior Desighn Level 0 Computer Technology and Keyboarding Level 0 Level 1 is the highest level, Level 0 means everyone has to be in the same class, therefore it doesn't affect quality point average. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Extra - Carricular ------ I might not be positively sure In School: CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES Debate Team Club Arabic Improv Troupe ( not sure) Student Senate Reps/Student Senate SPORTS Spring Season : Tennis/Track/Crew -- im not sure you can take all 3 of them at the same time/season Winter Season: Fencing/Winter Track -- Again, not sure if i can take both of them Out of School: Yale Center for Excellence in Genome and Proteomics (not sure) Minorities in Medicine Movement at Yale HPREP Yale Program(not sure) Yale Are High School Program Yale Daily News Journalism Science Fair Yale New Haven Hospital Volunteer Yale Model United Nation (not sure, costs like 100$) Mosque/Church Some of these programs are taken during the Summer ---------------------------------- Now i have some questions? Does all this sound good inorder to go to a good college like YALE.? Or do i need to do some more stuff? How do colleges now that you have taken all these extra-carriculars in and out of school? I want to be a Doctor and major in Medical, do the electives, not courses, ELECTIVES like in 9th grade im taking computer and desighn, do the colleges will look at that but consider that i want to be a doctor, i didn't take alot of business or technology? So thanks for helping, and please write what ever you think i need to do inorder to go to a good college, thank you so much.
