What kind of plants should I plant within the next few weeks(Baltimore) to last through fall and maybe winter?

Last year(end of summer) we planted pansies and they really lasted...is there another type of flower that can last through Baltimore's crazy weather through fall and winter... Please help! I was born with a broken green thumb!

1. chrysanthemums--they come in lots of colors
2. Pansies and "flowering" cabbage or kale will overwinter nicely.
