Where should my friend live in Baltimore?

My friend just accepted a job in Baltimore and needs to move there soon. She's looking for a safe neighborhood that's a mix of single people and families. Any suggestions?

1. More details would be helpful - price range? commuting options (drive, bus, rail)? job right downtown? suburbs or inner city preferred? That being said.... There are a lot of older buidling conversions into loft apartments right downtown that are nice. I really like Mount Vernon, Bolton Hill, and Mid-Town/Belvedere. Federal Hill and Fells Point would be other places to try. http://www.ci.baltimore.md.us/neighborhoods/
