How do I sing the key change in Good Morning Baltimore?

I have an audition on Monday at my school as we are doing the production Hairspray. We have to sing the key change in Good Morning Baltimore to show if we were Tracy we could do it. It is this part " Don't make me wait one more moment for my life to start" the key change is in the word start as it is a long note. Please help!

  1. What's your actual problem with it? Having enough breath, pitching the notes, or what? If you're struggling to get enough breath, make sure you take a good deep breath before the phrase starts and fill your lungs properly. To make sure you're breathing fully, try to open your mouth until you feel the air on the back of your throat. Your shoulders shouldn't go up when you breathe either. Also support yourself properly by tightening your diaphram. Also do not let yourself breathe out too much as you are singing the phrase, hold back until you get to the key change. Another problem with this key change could be whether to do it in head or chest voice. If you are struggling to hit the note with your chest voice it is best to do the whole phrase in head voice, building up the power as you move through the phrase so that it sounds powerful by the time you get to it. I'd recommend building your chest voice up through rehearsals though if you're successful in getting the role, as it should be done in chest voice. Don't give the phrase too much power until you reach the climax or you'll run out of steam before you get there. Can't say much else unless you actually explain what you need help with.
