Why is Obama and most of the lawyers in congress against tort reform?
If they were really serious about lowering the cost of health care wouldn't tort reform be a good place to start? Could it be that lawyers don't want to cut off their personal gravy train that generates billions of dollars a year for them at our expense? Does Obama & congress really have the American peoples best interests in mind or their own?

- looks like you answered your own question to me are you trolling?
- You are reminding me that lawyers should be prohibited from serving in the legislative branch of government. People who profit from laws should not participate in their creation.
- Not only is the current system EXTREMELY profittable for anyone in the law field, it also provide VAST opportunity for liberals to facilitate legislation from the bench and pushing their ideologies to become Stare Decisis for future generations.
- How do you force a corporation to change its ways if you don't penalize it heavily? It's not like you can lock it up. The only language corporations understand is money, and if a corporation has to pay a lot of money, they will not make the same mistake again. As far as doctors go, what do you do when a doctor makes a mistakes that leaves someone almost helpless for the rest of their lives? The doctor's insurance should have to pay for that. The trap you have fallen for is that the right-wing finds the rare and odd case where someone gets millions of dollars for something stupid. That does happen sometimes, but not often, and it happens not just in law, but also in business where failed CEOs get huge bonuses, for instance. The way to address the problem you're talking about is to have a more progressive income tax.
- congress hasn't had the citizens best interest at heart in a very long time and obama has it out for us the worst..he couldn't do enough damage while in congress so he took his act one step farther now he is resident alien in charge and we are in deep doo doo
- It's a conflict of interest for lawyers to be involved in lawmaking. Even if they meant well, they'd have a bias in favor of lawsuits and worse yet "revolving door" justice. The big cost of lawsuits is all the things people do to "cover their asses". Aholes like John Edwards made millions claiming that cerebral palsy was caused by obstetricians, resulting in a huge increase in birth by C-section. (no reduction in palsy) Smart youngsters will choose to be lawyers rather than doctors- as if thats what we need. The whole "national health insurance" thing doesn't address the COST of health care at all - it just puts more money under control of politicians. Affordable health care policy would deny that money bag to those scum.
- Obama is just playing politics!! Another typical Chicago thug politician. Did he tell you universal health care failed already in Hawaii? Of course not. Neither are they telling you that socialism has already failed!! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgEeCG9ANBVvhZsveyyPByfty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090613064341AAONJSQ
- Because doctors kill about 72,000 americans annually by botched medical procedures. Doctors kill more americans than auto accidents, gun violence, and war deaths combined.
- most dem leaders are lawyers, so theyd be put outta business
- How about take about an hour and graze through these pages and see how many lawyers, exactly, funded his campaign: http://www.campaignmoney.com/biography/barack_obama.asp?cycle=08#StateTotals It's just a coincidence that lawyers would be the ones to profit most from not capping malpractice suits. It should be pretty clear this early in the game whose interests are in mind. Reform is the ONLY place to start. But this new administration has already sold themselves to the Devil - prior to taking office. Too late now.
