What are good styling products to create curls in really heavy thick hair?

I use styling products but they make my hair look wirey. The product never lasts all day it sort of starts weighing down. Do you know of any products or tips that will help my hair stay soft and curly without having to use too much? I'm in australia so i mightn't have the same exact products here. But if you could tell me the type that it is. Should I get a curling wand?

  2. I have alot of family in the hair biz the best methods in my experience and their expertise have been the following Caruso Molecular hair setter I haven't seen it in stores anymore but plenty of online dealers I had one for years and it worked great especially for thick hard to curl/hard to hold curl type hair and stayed in almost 2 days without any other hair products I wish I would not of let my friend borrow it she broke it hair held up even in the most humid weather if you find one it's worth the price they were like hot rollers but the rollers were foam and you placed them on a steaming apparatus but they were not hot rollers filled with steam and curled in like 2 min I just loved the product also beauty supply stores have these foamy flexible perm rods I buy the orange and purple (the largest) they are about 8 inches and I spiral wrap damp hair around them and fold the ends of the rods together and sleep in them they are not uncomfortable at all in the morning I just unwind them throw my head forward and shake and finger style soft curl lasts for about 2 days too
